“ There is no better Mexican food in Connecticut. The Al Pastor is the best I have ever had. Always quick, always great prices, always great food. ”
“ I flipping love it when a place looks like a dive and has no frontage flair...then completely blows my mind!! A few tip-offs it was going to be supreme. Most everything in house is written in Spanish. The majority of the product sold is from Mexico. Finally, I am the only English as a first language person in the establishment. Foooor the wiiiin! I have been here a few times. Every time I'm in Willimantic. The flavors are so supreme. The ingredients are fresh. The staff are jovial and friendly. It checks all the boxes! Do not pass them by!! I personally love the torta with extra meat(carnitas or pastor). Bon appetite!! ”
“ I recently embarked on a full taco tour of Willimantic, and La Mexicana Grocery and Taqueria seemed to be the highest rated place on Yelp. It is indeed both a taqueria and a market. There is a seating area within the market where you can eat your tacos. The area where you order food is functional, but completely lacking in aesthetics. The tacos were terrific though. I ordered a Bistec, a Pastor and a Chorizo. The meats were very good, especially the Pastor and the Chorizo. The tortillas were very good. And the homemade red and green sauces were great. The taco side of La Mexicana is a great place worth exploring. The Market side was cool too. You can basically buy better versions of most Mexican foods you would buy in a grocery store. Terrific tostada shells. Very good queso fresco. Very good condiments. I love exploring stores like that. Five Stars ”
“ This place looks like a hole in the wall but don't let that deter you! It's a combination grocery store/ restaurant, it was busy, and I was the only person there not speaking Spanish. The burrito was delicious and there were many interesting ingredients at the grocery store. Two thumbs up. ”
“ BEST tortillas in Willimantic. There are so many great spots for Mexican in the area but if you're looking for the best burrito in town this is your spot. Service was fast and friendly. The ambiance is half cafe style and half grocery store. Highly recommend if you're looking for a GREAT tortilla! ”
“ Authentic Mexican food ! Friendly staff and prices are great !! Love this spot , love the carnitas as well as pastor !! Usually picking up food from them 2-3 x a month! ”
“ Some great items, with a delicious restaurant attached. It's a small place, but the items are hard to find in other places, so I'll definitely be returning soon. ”
“ This place is great! Service is friendly. Everything is clean. You can shop while waiting for your food. I got two tacos. The corn tortillas were handmade, super thin, one per taco, which made them absolutely perfect. I opted for the tacos with cilantro and onion vs the "everything" option. The meat was seasoned well, but it was a bit dry. Adding lime and tomatillo sauce made it perfect. I chose to walk here from the co-op half a mile down the road, as I was trying to get steps in walking around Willimantic and taking in some of the vibe of the town. Someone in their review said this is in "not the best area," but I could not tell you at all where they got that from, as I found the walk to be quite enjoyable. The "shadiest" thing I saw on this walk was the Domino's sign. ”
“ Amazing food. Very affordable will be coming back. Perfect hangover meal! The portions are very good, just the right amount! ”
“ Not the best area, but seriously good tacos Girlfriend was looking for a taco place for lunch. Happened on this well reviewed little location not too far off. So we came here to try them out. Place is not a looker. It's very plain and the outside is not well maintained. There's a counter to order and some tables to eat at and that's about it. The thing is, you can find some really solid tacos from some very random locations. So we get a bunch and take the food to a local park for us to enjoy. And I must say, these are really good tacos. Every taco was good enough to eat with no extra sauce. The veggies were dressed lightly to help compliment the meats. All the meats were cooked through and tender, and the corn tortillas were thin but not brittle. Best bite goes to the pork pastor. Spicy pork with lightly vinegared veggies and a little hot bite of Jalepenos with a little grassy from the cilantro. The green sauce was not mouth incinerating spicy, but a little more of a kick off you needed it. Price for street tacos was fairly good, came out to less than 20. For the quality they produce, it's a steal. If you don't mind hunting this place down, it's worth the try. Very solid tacos at a good price ”
